The kettlebell swing is a movement that you’ve probably seen a video of or people at the gym completing but may not be sure of why.

In this blog

I will briefly explain some of the benefits of this movement and how to go about learning the technique.

Technique

Like any strength movement, proper form is necessary to achieve the full benefits of a kettlebell swing. Any athlete hoping to learn this movement would be best suited to reach out to a personal trainer or strength coach who has a solid educational background in teaching kettlebell technique. The instructor will be able to slowly bring you through the steps of a swing and ensure that all joints and muscles are balanced, aligned and moving properly.

How to learn kettle bell techniques?

If you do not have access to a personal trainer or strength coach, there are plenty of online video tutorials from renowned trainers and coaches. If you plan to learn from an online video, start with low weight in front of a mirror. Always watch your shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles to make sure each joint is balanced and aligned.

Once you have mastered the movement, you can gradually increase the amount of weight and repetitions. Kettlebell swings are not only a wonderful strength workout, they can also double as an effective cardio workout. It is not uncommon for seasoned athletes to do sets of one, five and even ten minutes.
